Research

TIE supports interdisciplinary environmental research in the areas of water, energy & climate, and health. Many students and faculty have received TIE support for their research in the past and have become affiliated TIE scholars.

We currently have five TIE fellows working on topics as diverse as carbon markets, the consequences of water pollution to health, vector born disease, impact of urbanization on wildlife, and climate change impact on freshwater.

TIE is currently supporting one signature research project, the student-lead 2009 Solar Decathlon . The Solar Decathlon is a competition in which 20 international teams of university students compete to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house. More than 15 Tufts students from engineering, urban planning, environmental studies, media studies, and policies are currently involved in the research for this competition and their findings will be displayed on the Washington Mall in the fall of 2009.

The April 18, 2006 University Research Day highlighted Tufts' strength in environmental research, with talks to be delivered by Adil Najam, Mark Pokras and David Walt, as well as faculty blitz talks and panel discussions and poster presentations. Read more...
