Environmental Consciousness Outreach (ECO) is an undergraduate group that aims to increase environmental awareness through both education and action. The goal of environmental awareness is to think of the global environment as interlinked and to understand the effects of individual and collective actions upon the global environment. ECO strives to raise the awareness of both the Tufts community and the surrounding area.
The Energy Security Initiative (ESI) is an undergraduate student program focused on inquiry, research, and discussion regarding the military, political, economic, and environmental security aspects of energy. This endeavor seeks to engage students in both theoretical and hands-on projects regarding energy. A program supported by the Tufts Institute for Global Leadership, the ESI has the advantage of a broad based support structure, partnerships with other groups both in and out of the IGL such as NIMEP, EPIIC, and TIE and an international security outlook that is unique to the IGL and Tufts University.
The mission of the Student Planning and Policy Association (SPPA) is to help broaden students' knowledge of urban and environmental planning and policy issues on a local, regional and national scale, and also to provide opportunities for career development in these fields. The SPPA's activities are open to all UEP students, and the group emphasizes that its goals and outreach efforts embrace all the various "disciplines" housed within UEP. SPPA also works to connect students with the professional planning community, as well as with students at the other planning schools in Massachusetts. Overall, the SPPA seeks to provide a forum for activities that promote awareness of current trends and issues in urban and environmental policy and planning.
Energy in all its myriad forms impinges on virtually every aspect of international relations and informs debate concerning the environment, economic development, and security. The Fletcher Energy Consortium (FLEC) is a student organization dedicated to providing a venue for the presentation of energy-related research from those within the Fletcher community, both students and faculty, as well as invited guests.
Food Education and Action for Sustainability at Tufts (feast) is a partnership between Tufts students, the Center for International Environment and Resource Policy at the Fletcher School, Tufts Institute of the Environment, Tufts Dining Services, and food service operations on all Tufts campuses. feast is devoted to educating the Tufts community about the environmental, social, and health challenges involved in food production, and promoting the benefits of local farms, organic growing methods, and Fair Trade.
Water Watch is a group of Tufts students that works with the local community to improve the water quality of our local watershed. Water Watch volunteers educate at schools, clean rivers, and monitor water bodies in an effort to improve local ecological health.
Wildlife Aquatics Zoo Exotics (WAZE) is the largest student organization on the Tufts Vet School campus. Its aim is to promote veterinary education in the field of exotic and aquatic animals, wildlife husbandry, conservation, pathology, therapeutics, and surgery. This is a rapidly expanding field that can only be covered briefly in the Tufts curriculum. This society exists to present more in-depth research and current knowledge through a variety of lunchtime lectures, workshops, field trips and rounds throughout the year. WAZE annually holds a Spring Symposium with speakers from around the country, which is open to all members of the campus and community, as well as offering Continuing Education credit to technicians and professionals. WAZE members receive discounts to activities with fees and priority in limited-admission workshops or fieldtrips.
