The Tufts Institute of the Environment (TIE) is an interdisciplinary university-wide institute that initiates, facilitates, and promotes environmental education, research, and outreach.   As part of our educational mission to support environmental teaching at Tufts, TIE is pleased to announce the following funding opportunity and invite proposals from Tufts’ instructors.

This grant program seeks to encourage teaching staff, faculty and lecturers, from different disciplines to collaborate in creative ways to develop and teach an interdisciplinary environmental course. Courses should be targeted to a wide range of graduate and/or undergraduate students.

The deadline to submit a proposal for the 2014-2015 academic year is October 30th 2013.

Frequently Asked Questions

1)  How does this differ from Tufts Innovates?

More faculty are eligible to apply, the emphasis is on environment, and the proposal should support direct course development leading to broadening environmental curriculum at Tufts.

 2)  Is this connected to CELT?

While not connected to CELT, this program has been interested in interdisciplinary team-taught courses and an excellent article on the matter can be seen here on the CELT newsletter archives.

 3)  I’m unclear about the funding guidelines.

The funding guidelines are left open for interpretation so that we can gauge what professors need and request in terms of funding.  Tufts University policies apply at all times to the distribution of these funds.  Any specific questions should be directed to Theresa Silver and will be promptly addressed.
