Jenna Swarthout, PhD in Environmental Health

Jenna is a PhD student in the Environmental Health program conducting One Health research – recognizing the links between and optimizing human, animal, and environmental health. She studies exposures to zoonotic pathogens in domestic and community settings and the resulting impacts on human health, especially in low-income countries. Her previous research experiences include studying the health impacts of a) improved water, sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition in rural Kenya, b) exposure to zoonotic pathogens from animal feces, and c) point-of-collection water chlorination in urban Bangladesh. Jenna holds an MS and BS in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University and University at Buffalo, respectively.
